England hire Saqlain to tackle Pakistan spin

LAHORE: Pakistan’s legendary off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has agreed to join English cricket team as a spin-bowling consultant for the second Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford in July.

Pakistan’s legendary off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has signed a short-term contract with English board to join as a spin-bowling consultant during the series against Pakistan in July this year.

Saqlain was approached by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to help England tackle Pakistan’s spin attack during Test series, however, Saqlain made himself available for just one Test.

Saqlain seemed happy while taking twitter handle to break the news.

The maestro and inventor of Doosra has also worked with New Zealand and West Indies cricket teams in a consultant’s capacity.

Sources claim the primary purpose behind Mushtaq’s hiring is England’s attempt to decipher leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who decimated English batsmen during a three-Test series in November last year, reported.

Yasir, who only played two Test matches against England, took 15 wickets at a incredible economy of 2.60 for which he duly received the player of the series award.

It is pertinent to mention here that Mushtaq Ahmed, who has previously worked with England as spin-bowling consultant, is now serving Pakistan in the similar capacity. He has also been given extra-charge National Cricket Academy.

It would however be interesting to see if PCB sends him with the team or keeps him with NCA during the tour.
