KPK to begin Ramadan 2016 with rest of Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution to observe first Ramadan with rest of Pakistan, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

PPP MPA Fakhr-e-Azam tabled the resolution.

The resolution demanded a ban on non-government moon sighting committees and urged province to observe Eid with rest of Pakistan on announcement of Central Ruit-e-Hilal Committee.

It said that these committees create a major divide among people during Ramadan and Eid.

Many in the province celebrate the annual Muslim festival as per the announcement of Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan.

With this decision, 190 years old controversy of moon sighting will come to an end. As, according to the official records of KP’s Auqaf department, the Qasim Ali mosque was built in 1842.

However, the current khateeb Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai confirms that the tradition of sighting the Ramazan and Eidul Fitr moons goes back to 1825, Dawn.com reported.
