MUMBAI- The Alia Bhatt and Shahid Kapoor starrer Bollywood film, Udta Punjab is facing trouble with Censor board and its releases is impeded by the authority. This has come hours after the release of new song, Da Da Dasse.
According to the NDTV news channel, the film, based on the subject of drug abuse in Punjab, has failed to get clearance from the censor board for manifesting ‘excessive swearing’.
According to the news channel, the examining committee refused to clear the movie also for showing scenes of drug consumption.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, one of the producers, has decided to directly approach the ministry of information and broadcasting for a resolution, abandoning the usual route of going to the Revising Committee or Tribunal, reports say.
Kashyap has argued that the expletive-laden content is integral to the plot of the movie.
The film, directed by Abhishek Chaubey of Ishqiya fame, has been co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Phantom Films. Besides Kapoor and Bhatt, it stars Kareena Kapoor Khan and Punjabi actor Diljit Dosanjh and is slated to release on 17 June.
Representatives of the Udta Punjab production team were unavailable for comment.
