Electoral rolls in question as 2,35000 NICs get cancelled

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar’s claim of cancelling 2,35000 fake NICs has opened new Pandora box.

While these cards enrolled in 2013 election’s voter lists, their use in General Election 2013 has raised serious concerns on transparency of elections.

Nisar revealed that 6000 ID cards had been cancelled in 2013 from June to December, 22000 in 2014, 96,0686 in 2015 and 1,11000 ID cards have been seized in the year 2016, Dunya News reported.

Election Commission Pakistan (ECP) sources stated that all fake ID cards were registered in 2013 general elections. The identification of a total number of bogus votes would be detected through proper audit but might take a long period of time, the sources added.
