22 players shortlisted for England tour

ABBOTTABAD: Pakistan Selection Committee has shortlisted twenty two (22) names out of 35-players pool for upcoming England tour; announcement is expected within next few days.

Fitness of the players was the top criteria for selection while picking out players for the tough England assignment.

As per Arynews reports, the 20-year old Sami Aslam, Shan Masood and the in-form batsman from Karachi, Khurram Manzoor are selected as openers.

The experienced duo of Younis Khan and Misbah Ul Haq along with the pace bowlers Imran Khan and Rahat Ali will only feature Pakistan cricket team in the longest format of the game.

Whereas, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Junaid Khan and the ODI skipper Azhar Ali are selected for both the test and ODI series.

The newly appointed T20 captain, Sarfraz Ahmed and the frontline pacers Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz will represent Pakistan in all three formats of the game in England.

Shoaib Malik is only named in the ODI squad, while, Anwar Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed Khalid Latif and the explosive left-handed batsman, Sharjeel Khan is likely to play in 50-overs as well as 20-overs contests.

Although, Khalid, Khurram and Sharjeel’s names are in the probable players, but, they are advised by selectors to work hard on their fitness.

Mohammad Hafeez and Yasir Shah’s name have not been finalized due to their fitness issues, but, reports suggest that if they get fit in time, they will be a part of all three teams.

Pakistan is scheduled to play their first game against England on July 14th. Currently, 31 cricketers are attending a fitness camp in Kakul under army supervision.
