ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that the elections of Karachi Mayor and Deputy Mayor seats will be held on jun 8, TheNewsTribe.com reported.
Interested candidates are asked to submit their nomination papers on May 23 and 24.
Scrutiny of papers will be conducted on May 25, 26 and appeals can be filed till May 28. Candidates can withdraw their papers till May 31.
The list of selected candidates shall be made available on June 1 and they shall also be provided with election symbols on the very same day. Polling shall take place on June 8 whereas the results of the elections for Mayor, Deputy Mayor will be announced on June 9.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), who took the simple majority by winning 136 seats of union committee out of 209, has announced senior politician Waseem Akhtar and member of the provincial assembly Dr Arshad Vohra as its candidates for the slots of Karachi mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.
