Sindh Police to appoint 20,000 army-trained cops

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has approved to hire a total of 20,000 policemen, 8,000 only for Karachi to sustain peaceĀ in the province.

Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar also assured Shah that he will make the necessary arrangements to train the new recruits by the Pakistan Army.

Shah chaired an important meeting attended by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan, Rangers director-general Bilal Akbar, acting chief secretary Rizwan Memon, Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja and others at CM House on Thursday.

Ā After thorough discussions, the participant of the meeting agreed that peace in Karachi needs to be sustained and for that the Sindh Police need to be strengthened.

These discussions followed presentations by the Rangers and police chiefs on the performance of their forces and the challenges they face.
