Turkey calls Bangladesh diplomat back amid execution of Nizami

ANKARA- Turkey has called back its diplomat to Bangladesh amid Motiur Rahman Nizami, the head of Jamaat-e-Islami party’s execution.

Turkish President, Tayyip Erdogan told on Thursday to have withdrawn the Turkish ambassador to Bangladesh in the face of execution of Nizami over the alleged genocide and other crimes committed during a 1971 war.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh brought the JI leader to the gallows on the charges of genocide, rape and orchestrating the massacre of intellectuals during the war.

International human rights groups say the procedures of the Bangladeshi tribunal that sentenced Nizami fell short of international standards. The government rejects that, and the trials have been supported by many Bangladeshis. In Turkey, there have been a handful of protests against the execution in recent days.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan has also reacted angrily over the execution and accused Dhaka of “suppressing the opposition by killing their leaders through flawed trials”.
