Twitter is one of the most popular social media websites, and contains a mammoth of number of users. But what happens when the user dies? How the social media website reacts to its users’ death?
When a Twitter user dies, the company claims that it operates with the person authorized to act on the behalf of the estate, or with a verified immediate family member of the deceased, to get the account deactivated.
There are also other options to ask for the removal of a departed user’s account, which would demand from you the information about them, copy of your ID, and copy of the death certificate.
However the company is determined not to provide account access to anyone irrespective of his or her relation to the deceased.
The way to contact Twitter about a deceased user is to go to the Report a Violation option and then selecting Contacting Twitter about a deceased user or media concerning a deceased family member.
Furthermore, Twitter will remove the imagery of the deceased individuals in certain circumstances to protect the wishes of loved ones. Immediate family members and other authorized individuals may file request in this regard through privacy form.
However the company will consider the request and would not necessarily honor every request.
