Toxic sweets incident: Death toll reaches 18

LAYYAH: Death toll has risen to eighteen  after eating toxic sweets in Layyah, Saturday.

Earlier local media reported that three people died today in the Nishtar Hospital Multan who had eaten poisonous sweets. The toll has now reached to eighteen.

According to Rescue 1122 spokesperson Inayat Ali, the incident took place when a resident of Chak No-105 TDA namely Umar Hayat brought sweets from shop owned by Tariq Mahmood and Khalid Mahmood located at Chowk-111 Morh Toil-Indus on the birth of his grandson and distributed it among the people of the area.Six of his sons were also dead after eating the sweet poison.

However, death toll rises to eighteen while the others are under treatment in the Nishter Hospital of Multan.

Officials took the samples for testing while police had sealed the sweet shop and arrested the confectioner.
