Allama Iqbal: Remembering him on his 78th death anniversary

Allama Iqbal was born in Sialkot, Punjab in 1877. He was an extraordinary poet and political philosopher. His legacy is still felt through his poetry and his ideas that built the edifice of ideology of Pakistan. Today is his 78th death anniversary. Here are few facts that are a proof that he was an extraordinary man,

George V knighted him the title of ‘Sir’ in 1922.

He had had three marriages. In 1895, he married to Karim Bibi. While in 1910 he married second time with Sardar Begum and in 1914 he married with Mukhtar Begum.

Iqbal was entitled to a scholarship by Trinity College, University of Cambridge and achieved Bachelors of Arts in 1906. He acquired his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Ludwig Maxinilian University, Munich in 1908.

He was also given the “Khan Bahadurddin F.S. Jalaluddin” medal in 1897 for an outstanding result in the Arabic language.

Allama Iqbal was awarded two titles “Mufakkir-e-Pakistan” Or “The Thinker Of Pakistan” And “Hakeem-ul-Ummat” Or The Sage Of The Ummah.

There is a street named after Iqbal in Heidelberg, Germany to commemorate his stay there.

There is also a commemorative plaque outside his house in Germany in Honor of the great poet.
