ISLAMABAD- The corruption watch dog, Transparency International Pakistan (TIP) has ordered a transparent and fair probe into Panama Papers leaked. It has required that the chief justice of Supreme Court or a sitting judge designated by him should do this inquiry with the help of forensic audit experts.
“The inquiry should be conducted on day to day basis so that it may be completed within the shortest span of time,” says the TIP in a statement.
It further requires that the inquiry report on the Panama Papers should be made public and entitle the authorities with proper action in case of averse findings.
TIP is a civil society organization meant to curtail corruption, and it voiced concern over the ownership of offshore companies by citizens of Pakistan including public officials.
“The admission by a son of the prime minister about owning off shore companies and properties without divulging any plausible source of funds (used for such deals) casts doubts,” the statement says.
“Secretly maintaining bank accounts of off shore companies by public office holders is itself a suspicious act,” stresses the statement indicating that the scandal has led to the resignation of executives of some countries after release of their names in Panama Papers.
