ISLAMABAD-According to a survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan, only 29% of Pakistanis are aware of the term, ‘Islamic Banking’ whereas same proportion of people do not have any idea about the term.
The survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan is a part of nationwide access to Finance Study conducted by the State Bank of Pakistan in 2015.
A nationally representative sample of men and women selected across the country was inquired about the term,
“There are many words used in Pakistan that apply to financial services. Please tell me if you have heard the following word: Islamic Banking.”
42% Pakistanis said that they had heard of Islamic banking but they do not understand its meaning. Whereas 29% claimed to know and understand the meaning and 29% had not heard the term.
Among those who knew and understood the meaning of Islamic Banking, 29 % were men and 28% were women.
Furthermore, those who had heard of the term constituted 44% males and 41% females.
