North Korea’s missile launch attempt fails on founder’s birthday

PYONGYANG- North Korea reportedly tried a missile launch early morning on its founder, Kim Il-Sung’s birthday but it has failed, South Korean Defense Ministry source reports via South Korean News Agency.

“North Korea appears to have tried a missile launch from the East Sea area early morning today, but it is presumed to have failed,” the Joint Chiefs of Staff says, as quoted by the agency.

Type of the missile has not been confirmed by the official, but the agency presumed it could be the new Musudan medium-range ballistic missile reportedly spotted in the area earlier this week.

The US Strategic Command Systems identified the launch, tracked the missile and confirmed that it did not offer any threat to North America. The US military also did not reveal any detain regarding the type of launch, leaving it to North Korea to “characterize it themselves”.

Prior to the launch. It was warned that North Korea had deployed one or two Musudan missiles off its east coast, which has the range of more than 3,000 km (1800 miles) and reportedly had not been flight tested previously.

The perceived range of the missile is enough to cover not only any target in South Korea, but also Japan, as well as American bases on the Pacific island of Guam.

Today is the 104th  birthday of the country’s founder, Kim II-Sung and is a national holiday usually marked by the demonstration of the country’s military capabilities.
