Crane crash claims 18 lives in China

DONGGUAN: A collapsed crane claimed 18 at least 18 lives in Dongguan industrial area of southern Guangdong province of China.

Over 200 firefighters are working on the scene for the search and rescue mission in an area over 200 square meters. The 80 ton crane fell on a a temporary building during a windstorm.

The collapsed temporary building served as living quarters for the workers of the industrial site and housed around 140 people. 88 people managed to escape the site on their own.

Rescuers have retrieved 15 people from the rumbles and the injured have been shifted to nearest hospitals. A 20 million Yuan rescue fund has been allocated for the operations.
