Nisar urges not to link spy arrest with Iran

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has urges media not to link the arrest of an Indian spy with Pakistan-Iran ties.

“I appeal to our patriotic media that it should not create an impression as if Iran is the facilitator of RAW’s activities in Pakistan,” Nisar told a press conference in Islamabad.

“On one hand, there was a positive visit of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to Pakistan, but on the other hand, a section of media ran negative stories about the arrest of RAW agent Kulbhushan Jadhav and Iran,” he said.

Nisar said that there should be no room for kite-flying regarding Pakistan-Iran ties.

“Our ties with Iran are by no means linked with the arrest of a spy. He wasn’t facilitated by the Iranian government,” he said.

Some elements, he noted, want to harm the positive and historic ties between the two neighborly countries.

“Iran is not involved in anti-Pakistani activities. In fact, the Iranian president termed Pakistan’s security as Iran’s security,” he pointed out

The interior minister said that Iranian ambassador to Islamabad met him and complained about the negative reporting in a section of media.

He recalled that Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) had proposed that Pakistan should play the role of mediators in Iran-Saudi row.

“We will take up our concern with Iran on table, not in media,” he said.
