MUMBAI: West Indies beat India in a high-scoring thriller by 7 wickets in the second semifinal of ICC WT20 2016 at Wankhede Cricket Stadium, Mumbai.
West Indian skipper Darren Sammy won a crucial to toss and chose to field first as Wankhede pitch is disaster for defending sides.
He might have thought to restrict India to 170-180, and they did pretty much but, it was Great Virat Kohli who brought back the momentum of the game after India lost Rohit Sharma (43) and Rahane (40).
Dhoni too played his cameo with Virat to convert ones int twos and two into threes. What an outstanding pair they are when it comes to running between the wicket.
India were totally in control. taking Chris Gayle out cheaply for 4 runs and then Samuel for 8 runs.
But, West Indies held theri nerves, and incoming Simmons (82*) and Charles (52) followed by Andre Russels’ (43*) firepower in last moments of the inning snatched match from India’s jaws.
The final will be played between West Indies and England on April 2, at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi.
Simmons was chosen man of The Match for his blistering innings.
