Beware: You can be depressed without knowing it

Thanks to some celebrities, we are finally comfortable to discuss depression and are at peace with the facts that anybody normal can be a victim of depression. It is not something relevant to being mad. Here is another fact to be beware of, that you can be depressed without realizing it.

So, here are a few symptoms that you should know. These are fatigue, low energy and body ache, sleep disturbances, irritability changes in appetite, loss of confidence, lack of concentration, difficulty with decisions, social withdrawal, becoming defiant, deep sadness / inability to experience pleasure.

Mainly depression is characterized by deep melancholic sadness with debilitating effects, like, inability to feel motivated in directing one’s attention to some productive activity, intense fatigue and lethargy, lack of interest in initiating and maintaining social interactions and an overall disinterest in any activity that employs ‘mental energy’ or requires ‘initiative-taking’.

So, if you are facing these symptoms, you are depressed without knowing it. Two things are important to diagnose the condition: Reporting of all or most of the aforementioned symptoms and emotional signs like frequent crying spells, break-downs, and reported feelings of hurtful sadness, helplessness and hopelessness.

Usually if the duration of these signs and symptoms last for 6 months to 1 year, it is indicative of a diagnosis of clinical depression.
