From New York Daily News to Fortune magazine is wishing social media site, Twitter its 10th birthday, but is the day today? Not really. Officially, Twitter operationalized on 15 July, so why everybody, including Twitter celebrates its birthday today?
Basically it is the day when the founder, Jack Dorsey tweeted his first one, ‘Just setting up my twttr’ in 2006. This is the cause for celebration. Twitter just did not get launched publicly till July 15th.
So, the question why Twitter is celebrating its birthday today has the explanation that it does not want to give up his second birthday. It is great PR after all. One can do with a bit of more publicity and with hundreds of happy birthday tweets as well.
It is pertinent to mention that ‘twttr’ was born as a brain child of Dorsey, Ev Williams, Biz Stone, and Noah Glass. The time since it was launched, its mark on Internet culture began, including the use of the “hashtag,” proposed in 2007 by technologist Chris Messina.
It seems that the celebration will not end until the day does.
