NEW DELHI: International Cricket Council (ICC) Chief Executive Dave Richardson has announced on Wednesday to shift Pakistan-India World Twenty20 match venue from Dharamsala to Kolkata’s Eden Garden. The decision was taken after Pakistan Cricket Board requested ICC in a letter for venue change due to rising security concerns. It is a developing story, will be updates accordingly.
The rivals were scheduled to play in Dharamsala on 19 March, but there has been local opposition to the match.
Pakistan were due to fly to India on Wednesday but now need clearance from the interior ministry in Islamabad.
Now, ICC on PCB’s demand has confirmed Kolkata (Calcutta) as an alternative venue.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed it had received the request from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), but spokesman Sami Ul Hasan told the BBC a decision on any venue change had yet to be made.
A Pakistani security assessment team were sent to India on Tuesday and have submitted a report to the interior ministry which will take a final decision on whether the national team goes to India or not, a PCB official told the BBC.
