Funeral prayer of Qadri to be offered today

RAWALPINDI: Funeral prayer of Mumtaz Qadri, who killed the former Punjab governor Salman Taseer, will be offered on Tuesday after Namaz e Zuhar, TheNewsTribe.com reported.

According to details, funeral prayer will be offered at Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi and he will be laid to rest in Bhara Kahu, Islamabad.

Security arrangements have been made for this occasion. Islamabad Red Zone has been blocked through containers due to security concerns.

The road from Rawal Dam roundabout to Red Zone has also been closed for traffic.

Mumtaz Qadri, was Monday around 4:30 am at Adiala Jail. Senior police official Sajjid Gondal told that Mumtaz Qandri, who shot Salman Taseer 28 times, was hanged to death earlier on Monday.

“I can confirm that Qadri was hanged in Adialia jail early Monday morning,” senior local police official Sajjid Gondal told AFP.

Salman Taseer was killed in Kohsar’s Market back in January 4, 2011. Mumtaz Qadri said that he killed Taseer over what he called the politician’s vocal opposition to blasphemy laws of the country.

Qadri was sentenced to death over the killing of Salman Taseer in October 1, 2011 and his mercy plea was rejected by President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain.
