Two cops gunned down in Lahore

LAHORE: Some unknown gunmen opened fireĀ and killed two policemen at a checkpoint in Lahore on Wednesday night, police said.

The firing incident took place in Iqbal Town area of the city.

According to police, unidentified assailants targeted Asif and Mubashir at Iqbal Town No 3 Stop. The two were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

ā€œWe have launched investigations into the attack whether or not it was a terrorist attack,ā€ a senior police officer said.

In a press statement, Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed grief over martyrdom of two policemen and offered condolence to their families.

ā€œCulprits involved will be brought to justice. Police has offered number of sacrifices to ensure peace & safety,ā€ he said.
