Four tips for healthy teeth

Do you have braces? Here’s how to take care of your teeth

Oral hygiene is crucial for normal, healthy teeth without orthodontic appliances, but, it becomes earth-shatteringly paramount, when one is wearing braces and orthodontics. Bugs and food can easily get stuck between brackets and wiring, causing gum disease, cavities and bad breath. Follow these tips to prevent problems…

Have a nutritious diet

A healthy, nutritious diet can add a lot to your overall dental health.

Avoid eating all the time

It is important to limit the frequency of food intake, avoid having foods with sugar during your meals to prevent gum disease and cavities. Eating throughout the day will lead to food getting stuck and harming your teeth.

Limit intake of sugary foods

One must limit the intake of sugary foods/soda when you have orthodontics. And if you cannot resist the temptation, then it is vital to brush and floss (yes there are special flossing products you can use!) after you are done eating.

Don’t have foods that are sticky

Avoid foods such as hard and sticky candy, gum, ice, popcorn, pizza crusts and nuts which can not only cause cavities by sticking but also can break the orthodontic appliance resulting in a longer duration of treatment.
