CALIFORNIA- It seems that McDonald is going through a tough time. As it is now facing a lawsuit because the customers accuse the chain of serving mozzarella sticks lacking in cheesiness.
A man in California is pursuing $5 million in damages from the fast-food giant for himself and 40 other consumers who were allegedly served mozzarella sticks with insufficient cheese, according to the Business Insider.
The proposed class action suit alleges the sticks are not “100% real cheese,” but instead partially composed of starch filler. According to the lead plaintiff, federal guidelines prohibit the use of starch in products labeled “mozzarella cheese.”
“Our mozzarella cheese sticks are made with 100% low moisture part skim mozzarella cheese,” McDonald’s said in a statement about the case. “We intend to defend ourselves vigorously against these allegations.”
The lawsuit is apparently not directly connected to recent social media outrage sparked by McDonald’s customers who say they were served hollowed-out mozzarella sticks.
McDonald’s launched mozzarella sticks nationwide in January as part of a new “McPick 2” promotion, which allows customers to pick two of the following for $2: a McDouble, a McChicken, small fries, and mozzarella sticks.
The mozzarella sticks are also available on their own, costing $1 for three sticks.
