Former Foreign Minister Sahibzada Yaqoob Ali Khan dies

RAWALPINDI: Former Foreign Minister, Retd General of Pakistan Army and top diplomat Sahibzada Yaqub Ali passed midnight between Monday and Tuesday.

Report of his demise was aired at midnight between Monday and Tuesday. Sahibzada Yaqub Ali Khan cropped up differences with regime’s policy about East Pakistan in early 1970s and prematurely retired.

During the tenure of his junior General Zia ul Haq, he became foreign minister of Pakistan and Benazir Bhutto also appointed him as foreign minister when she first became prime minister in 1988.

He remained ambassador to United States, Russia and France. He was founder chairman of Aga Khan University.
Mr. Khan was born in Indian city Ram Pur in 1920. He was a notable of Ismaili Shia community.
