I wanted to be a fighter pilot: Sikander Raza

HARARE: Zimbabwean all-rounder Sikander Raza Butt has revealed that cricket was never on his mind but his passion was to become a fighter pilot since childhood, TheNewsTribe.com learnt from ESPN cricinfo.com.

While talking to cricinfo correspondent Butt said “In my heart I wanted to be a fighter pilot. After that dream didn’t come true, I wanted to be a software engineer. That also didn’t come through. I think this shows that God has a better plan for you than you do for yourself.”

He went on saying that ‘I still watch programmes about fighter planes with a lot of interest. It gives me goosebumps. It gets me emotional. It was my dream. The idea was never planted in my head by my family.’

He added ‘In Pakistan they have two Air Force cadet colleges. I was lucky enough to go to PAF Lower Topa, which is in Murree, from Grade 7 to 12. Unfortunately, I was medically unfit after the 10th. I couldn’t go to the reunion in the first week of July last year, but I would love to go back there.’

While talking about his friends he said that ” I am quite a realistic person. Some of my friends who were with me are now fighter pilots. Some of them are on F-16s and some are flying instructors. I feel quite happy and blessed. Some of them were shaheed [martyred] trying to protect people.”
