Bacha Khan University attack facilitators presented before media

PESHAWAR: Pakistan army chief spokesman Lt-Gen Asim Bajwa said that five facilitators who helped execute Wednesday terrorist attack at Bacha Khan University were apprehended.

PESHAWAR: Chief Spokesman of Pakistan Army Lieutenant Gen Asim Hussain Bajwa presented five facilitators of Bacha Khan University attack before media, arrested on Saturday afternoon.

“So far we have apprehended five facilitators and raids are being conducted to arrest another facilitator, his wife and a niece,” Bajwa said.

“Four terrorists, Ali, Usman, Umar and Abid, who were trained in Afghanistan, crossed into Pakistan from Torkham Crossing like ordinary travelers and used public transport to reach Mardan,” Bajwa said.

“One facilitator, Terrorist A, who is yet to be apprehended, brought the terrorists to Mardan, where they were received and sheltered by Adil and Riaz.

“Adil is a carpenter, who worked in the university for some time. He drew a map of the university and remained involved in planning the attack.”

“Noorullah, who bought an auto rickshaw, transported terrorists to sugarcane fields near Bacha Khan University in Charsadda.”

Bajwa said that weapons used by the terrorists were from bought from Darra Adam Khel.

“Adil and Riaz helped them (terrorists) buy weapons. Adil’s wife and niece were used to carry weapons. They hid weapons in their burqas at checkposts.”

He said that Umar, the main commander, who was in Afghanistan, called a Pakistani reporter during the attack. The phone call was also played before media.

The DG ISPR called upon the nation to play its role to help eliminate terrorism from the country.

“Every individual has to play a role to prevent terrorism. Facilitators are living our society. We need to be aware of our surrounding as terrorists are hitting soft targets,” he said.

“Even in a developed country, these are security challenges. But societies and people play their part to confront them,” he said, referring to recent attacks in the West.

“We have to defeat their (militants) designs,” he added.

To a question, he said that Pakistan never blamed the Afghanistan government for the carnage. “We have clear evidence to establish that the terrorist attack was orchestrated in Afghanistan,” he added.
