Six shocking scandals involving Pakistani cricketers

Just like other celebrities, Pakistani cricketers have remained the center of attention in national as well as international media because of various scandals and rumors. Here are the few of these scandals,

Four Pakistani cricketers jailed (1993)

In 1993, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Mustaq Ahmed and Aqib Javed, country’s bowling cream was held up by the Grenada police at a beach in Grenada, West Indies.

They were caught with alcohol, drugs and potential escorts. The police had held them on charges of marijuana possession and the four had to spend a night in jail as the first Test was pushed ahead by a day.

Shahid Afridi banned for damaging pitch (2005)

In November 2005, Shahid Afridi was banned for a Test match and two One-day Internationals for deliberately damaging the pitch in a Nat-west series in England.

TV cameras had caught Afridi scraping his studded boots on the pitch, when play was held up after a gas canister had exploded in the background.

Shoaib Akhtar’s life-time ban for disciplinary issues (2008)

In April 2008, Shoaib Akhtar was sentenced to  a lifetime ban for repeated disciplinary problems. In September 2007, Pakistan’s preparations for the ICC World Twenty20 were rocked by an ugly incident between Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Involved in a dressing room spat, Asif was struck by a bat on his left thigh by Shoaib.

Salman, Amir, Asif jailed for match-fixing (2011)

In November 2011, Muhammad Aamir was sentenced to six months by a British court for fancy betting in a Test Match against England via bookie Mazhar Majeed. He was sent to a Young Offenders’ Institution by Southwark Crown Court, England, for conspiracy to cheat at gambling and conspiracy to accept corrupt payments.

Veena Malik’s allegations on Muhammad Asif (2012)

We all remember the shameful allegations Pakistan TV star Veena Malik had sailed upon Muhammad Asif. Claiming they had been married and she had bought the fast bowler a car from her own money, demanding it back.

Moin Khan caught in a Casino (2015)

As Pakistan was playing poorly in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, Chief selector Moin Khan was in the the headlines again. Moin was spotted in a New Zealand casino and later sent back to Pakistan for disorderly conduct.
