Chaudhary Nisar lashes out at Sindh govt over Rangers issue

ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan warned the Sindh government not to attempt to ridicule and make the paramilitary Rangers force controversial.

He was holding a press conference in Islamabad after Sindh government failed to extend the policing powers of Rangers and placed the matter for debate in the provincial assembly.

“We have three to four options if Sindh government doesn’t resolve this issue amicably and maturely,” Nisar said. “If Rangers are forced to speak out, the whole nation will stand behind them,” he said.

After the Almighty, Rangers played a major role to restore peace in Karachi after many sacrifices, he said.

“I don’t know why an individual has become so much important for the Sindh government. All this is being done for just one person,” he said, without directly naming Dr Asim Hussain, who is considered a close aide of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.

The interior minister said that efforts were being made to de-track the targeted operation in Karachi. “People and media are witness to improved law and order situation in Karachi,” he said.

Nisar said that the federal government was extending every possible support to Sindh administration for restoring law and order in Karachi.

He also commended MQM for backing the targeted operation despite the party’s public reservations.

To a question, he threatened to make public a video recording of Dr Asim Hussain about his confessions. “I am still hopeful that the matter will be resolved amicably.
