ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) failed to take action against Illegal DTH user in Pakistan.
Based on the information through different sources Illegal DTH user in Pakistan is approximately 3.5 to 4.5 million active base.
Approximately 430-550 million US $ is being paid out of Pakistan annually in lieu of DTH recharge through illegal sources like Hawala and Hundi via Dubai, Singapore and then India. Thus, this way Pakistan is at loss for not being paid for any tax against DTH services provided in Pakistan.
Average price of recharge is Rs. 750-1400 in Pakistan. Even Cable Operators in Pakistan are providing DTH services with dish TV labels illegally and unnoticed.
PEMRA is bound to take strict action against such issues where Indian Dish TV services are providing Indian channels openly in Pakistan, but no one has taken any action against this illegal activity.
Illegal DTH distributors and dealers are working in Pakistan without any check and balance and no Pakistani authority has ever taken this into any consideration.
Many such dealers and distributors are working in major cities and across Pakistan, and are openly involved in sales and distribution of illegal DTH. For instance, In G-11 Markaz of capital city of Pakistan (Islamabad) right in the basement of Soneri Bank Ltd. we can find a dealer who is openly dealing with DTH, also in Blue Area, Imperial Market of Rawalpindi, Hall Road of Lahore, Sadar Market in Karachi, Gujrat, Sargodha, Gujar Khan infact everywhere in Pakistan DTH is being distributed and sold openly without any check and balance.
The responsible to start this activity was the person named Zahid Bashir, and now so many names are responsible for dealing with DTH.
Currently the illegal DTH boxes are being imported through Afghanistan then Hayat abad (Peshawar) and to overll Pakistan.
