Quran is not only a sacred book for Muslims rather it is pretty much more than that. It is the code of our life, our guide, our mentor, and our source to talk to Allah Almighty.
Islam is over 1400 years old, and for over 1400 years, the Quran remains as it is, unchanged and unadulterated. The respect and reverence that Muslims have for Quran can be judged by their efforts to preserve and create Quran to be as glorious as it can be.
These Qurans are the evidences to those efforts.
The oldest Quran
It dates back to the time of Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH)’s life. The parchment dates back to around 1,500 years about the time of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). Printed on skin of a goat or sheep, the parchment has gone intense carbon dating and is believed to belong to 568-645 AD.
The largest Quran
This Quran has the size of 7 ft x 5 ft. Made by Afghan calligrapher Mohammed Sabeer Khedri Hussani along with 9 students, the Quran has pages over seven feet tall and five feet wide. It weighs 1,102 pounds with 218 pages of cloth and paper bound inside an embossed leather cover made from the skins of 21 goats.
The smallest ancient Quran
The Quran is owned by a UAE resident, Ameel Issa. It measures just 5.1 cm in length and 8 cm in width. It comprises 550 pages and is estimated to be about 400 years old. The owner says that the Quran has been in his family for ages and was found around Jerusalem.
Pakistan’s attempt to make the world’s largest, tallest and most precious Quran
Last but not the least Dr. Muhammad Faisal from Lahore has started work on the world’s biggest, heaviest, highest and most precious Quran. After preparation, the Quran would have a total of 35000 pages i.e. of paper 5 miles. It would weigh 1622 tons and measure 8 feet x 4 feet with a 1.25 inch thickest. The total expenditure on the Quran is expected to be around Rs. 648,844,000.
