RAWALPINDI: Stressing the need as well measures for regional stability, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif Wednesday discussed regional security issues, including Afghanistan and India with US Secretary of State John Kerry.
“During a meeting with Mr Kerry, the COAS, who is on five-day visit to the United States, highlighted the need for resolution of Kashmir issue,” Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa.
The two sides discussed the Afghan-owned reconciliation process, challenges and way forward, Bajwa said in a post that appeared on his Twitter handle.
“General Raheel highlighted Pakistan’s perspective of regional security and reiterated the desire to solidify Pak-US relations based on mutual interest and respect,” Bajwa said in another tweet.
According to DG ISPR, the US Secretary of State welcomed the delegation and emphasized that the US relations with Pakistan were independent of all other countries.
“Mr Kerry acknowledged Pakistan’s contributions and enormous sacrifices in the fight against terror during the meeting,” said he in another tweet.
