RAWALPINDI: Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif has on Tuesday met US Defence Secretary Ashton Carter in Pentagon where defence relations between the two countries and regional security situation came under discussion.
According to details from Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) welcoming the delegation led by the army chief, the Defence Secretary underlined importance of Pak-US ties along with shared history.
Ashton Carter said US values Pakistan and looks at its relations with Islamabad independent of all other countries. Appreciating Pakistan’s contributions and sacrifices in war against terrorism , he acknowledged effects of successful counter terrorism operations, which he said are opening opportunities for regional peace.
Carter said Washington will play its part and fully support Pakistan’s efforts in fighting terrorism and extremism in any way.
We will continue to operate in a coordinated manner against this global menace, he said.
DG ISPR Lt General Asim Saleem Bajwa in his tweets said General Raheel Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s perspective of regional challenges, reiterating that backed by national consensus and with whole of nation approach, Islamabad is resolved to eliminate terrorism and extremism from its soil for good.
