Supreme Court de-seats PPP provincial minister

ISLAMABAD: Supreme COurt of Pakistan overruled the Tribunal’s verdict, on  Thursday and de-seated Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) provincial minister Asghar Ali Junejo.

A three-member of the apex court headed by Justice Saqib Nisar was hearing the case.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had declared Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) candidate Jam Madad Ali victorious from PS-81, Sanghar in the last general elections.

Asghar Junejo moved the election tribunal, seeking recounting of votes in the constituency after which the tribunal declared him winner following the process of vote recount.

Ali challenged the election tribunal’s verdict in the Supreme Court after which the apex court declared null and void the tribunal’s decision
