Five ways to do exam revision efficiently

Five ways to do exam revision efficiently| TheNewsTribe.com

Do you know that students fail even when they have learned everything by heart? They do so because they cannot do their best while sitting in their exam.

Have completed the preparation? Now it is time for a thorough revision as you are not a computer in which everything once read is stored. You would be surprised to know that revision is an art. You may be fully satisfied with your revision but still it can turn a fiasco.

Here are a few things to follow that would make your revision fruitful,

Do not just re-read

Just re-reading produces no improvement in learning. According to a research, when you are reading something for the second time you do not process things deeply and pick nothing new. This kind of revision is usually casual and it gives you a false hope that you know the books thoroughly but in reality you may have left some gaps.

Associate something new to what you already know

Try to relate things. Relate the text with what you know before, it would help you memorize facts and when you are stuck at something while writing in exam you would remember it by this example.

Quiz yourself

This is one of the best techniques to do the revision. Read your notes once, and then quiz yourself. It catalyzes the learning and memory. When you can’t retrieve something in your quiz, you get an idea about what you know and what you don’t know.

Visualize

Make diagrams, flowcharts and tables. This is the best strategy to take notes and revise. It creates active learning and generates understanding on your own. It basically means the learner needs to become more involved and more engaged, and less passive. Another good strategy in this regard is to make flashcards.

Don’t cram

Most of the students cram, they wait until the last minute, and then in one evening, they repeat the information again and again. But research shows this isn’t good for long term memory. It may allow you to do okay on that test the next day, but then on the final, you won’t retain as much information, and then the next year, when you need the information for the next level course, it won’t be there.
