ISLAMABAD: The election for the post of the National Assembly Speaker got underway in the Parliament’s lower house on Monday.
Prime Minister Miyan Mohammad Nawaz Sharif cast first vote of the election.
The members of the National Assembly (MNAs) will also cast their secret ballots to elect the Speaker of the lower house of the parliament.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has nominated Ayaz Sadiq as candidate while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has named Shafqat Mehmood.
Independent candidate from FATA, Ghazi Ghulab Jamal, has already withdrawn his nomination papers in favor of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
All the main political parties, including PPP, MQM, JUI-F, Jamaat-e-Islami, as well as independent members from FATA have announced support for the PML-N candidate.
