LAHORE: A glorious ‘Change of Guards’ ceremony was held at the tomb of ‘Poet of the East’ Dr Allama Mohammad Iqbal on his 138th birth anniversary.

A ‘dashing detail’ of Pakistan Navy sailors assumed the duty of guarding the tomb relieving the towering troops of Baloch Regiment-2. They had been standing guard at the tomb for a year now.

Marching to the tunes the contingent moved to take positions at the four corners of the mausoleum.

Station Commander Navy Lahore Commodore SM Shehzad, who graced the ceremony as chief guest, laid floral wreath on the grave of Allama Iqbal and offered Fateha. He also recorded his impression in the visitor’s book.

Social, cultural, educational and literary organizations have planned to hold different programmes to mark the day and pay tribute to the great poet and philosopher who envisioned a separate homeland for the Muslims of sub-continent.
