Do and Don’ts in Panic Attack| TheNewsTribe.com

Are you a victim of frequent panic attack and don’t know how to handle them? If so, then this article can help you out. Panic attack is actually a sudden spell of intense anxiety which follows a strong fear of something or some phobia. It usually results in hyperventilation and abnormally fast heart rate.

Symptoms of panic attack are,

Signs of fast breathing, such as hyperventilation or over breathing

A very fast pulse rate

Feeling of tension that causes a headache or chest tightness

The patient may be very apprehensive and may even have a fear of dying.

Here are a few tips to handle a panic attack:

Get rid of  the cause:

Try to find out the cause of the patient’s fear and separate her from it. Either remove it from her or move her away from it. Don’t restrain someone who is having a panic attack. And never attempt to slap the person to snap him or her out of it.

Also, never ask the patient to rebreathe air from a plastic bag it can result in low blood oxygen levels.

Be firm:

Try to calm the patient by talking firmly but kindly and calmly to her. Explain that she is having a panic attack and keep others away.

Breathe Calmly:

Breathing more slowly will help to calm you and stop you hyperventilating. If you are the person other than the patient, try to encourage the patient to copy your breathing pattern.

Monitor the patient:

Stay with her until she has recovered. If she has a history of panic attacks, advise her to seek help to learn how to control them.
