This produce commonly known as ‘Tulsi’ is a tropical plant and should be stored at room temperature. It turns black when stored below 40 degrees F. It should be kept in a shady place and submerged in water. Place a zip-top plastic bag over the plant to let it breathe and stay moist.

Onions are the key ingredient for nearly each and every dish and so they are there in every household. But a few people know that this vegetable needs air circulation to remain fresh. The nest way to keep them fresh is to store them in a hole-punched paper bag in the store. Avoid placing them near potatoes as they emit gas and moisture that may rot the potatoes earlier than they are supposed to. However chopped onions can be refrigerated.

Potatoes

Cool temperature turns potato starch in sugar which makes it taste sweet and gritty. Potatoes should be kept at 45 degrees F. The best way to store them is to keep them in a paper bag at a cool place but not refrigerator (whose temperature ranges from 35 degrees F to 38 degrees F). They should not be kept in sunlight also as it causes chlorophyll to accumulate and thus turn potatoes green and bitter.

Storing tomatoes on the counter is better than storing them in refrigerator. Cooling alters chemical pathways in tomatoes and they do not remain fresh for a long time.
