Five reading habits that would make your kid a keen reader

Five reading habits that would make your kid a keen reader| TheNewsTribe.com

There is nothing more important but reading to seek wisdom. Reading does not only mean to scrutinize a stack of pages rather it encompasses the reading of habits and patterns of behavior. However, reading is a key source to gain knowledge and wisdom.

Reading is a habit which is generally inculcated in childhood. Here are a few tips that would make your child a good reader,

Let your child lead

Never force your child to sit still and read, it would make reading a boring practice for him and he would think it as a punishment. Just give him the book and see what he does with it. When he or she starts losing interest in it let him play. Comment on the story yourself, this would induce curiosity in your child.

Read books with ample illustrations

Books with minimal text and maximum illustrations are best for your kid. They would make your child enjoy reading and he or she would be able to remember the story. These would add to your child’s memorizing abilities.

Ask questions

Children between 16 and 24 months have more tendency to enhance their vocabulary on daily basis as compared to any other age. The easiest way for them to learn is to learn from illustrations. Kids form their vocabulary by learning nouns first so they would easily remember the words like dog, water, and fish through their illustrations. Ask them questions like what color is the dog or what it is doing. In this way they would start learning the abstract aspects of these things as well.

Hold your child in your arms while reading him or her a book

In this way the child would associate a good feeling with reading as he or she will feel close and comfortable at that time. This would enable the kid to read out aloud confidently as he would have the practice to do so.

Relate the story with real life

If the story involves a kid going to a shop or elsewhere, relate it with your kid’s experience of going to that place, this would add to the kid’s interest in the story and also would help him to remember the story and vocabulary.
