KARACHI:Moon of the holy month of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar sighted in Karachi.
Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met today in Karachi and announced that moon of Muharram sighted. Chairman of the moon-sighting body, Mufti Munib-ur-Rehman preside over the meeting today (Wednesday) at Meteorological Complex.
Meantime, Sindh government announced public holiday on the first of Muharram to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Umar Farooq (R.A.).
It should be mentioned here that the religious scholars demanded holiday on the martyrdom day of the second caliph.
According to Chief Minister House, Qaim Ali Shah approved the public holiday for Karachi alone
