PM Nawaz proposes 4-point peace formula in UN speech

NEW YORK: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan in his address at the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday proposed a four-point formula to initiate peace process with neighboring India.

PM Nawaz’s proposed demilitarization of Kashmir, immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Indian troops from Siachen, resumption of composite dialogue and  formalisation of border ceasefire.

“Cooperation, not confrontation, should define relationship between India and Pakistan,” he said.

“Pakistan is a primary victim of terrorism. We have lost thousands of lives to terrorist attacks,” Sharif said, adding that Pakistan will fight terrorism in all forms and manifestation.

“Our operation Zarb-e-Azb is the largest anti-terrorist operation. This operation is complimented by an inclusive national action plan.”

Sharif warned that the global threat of terrorism cannot be defeated unless we address the underlying causes of the terrorism.

The prime minister also welcomed Iran’s nuclear deal with world powers.

Nawaz Sharif said there was no need to increase permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). “We look forward to welcome Palestine as a full member of the United Nations,” said the prime minister.

He said Pakistan will assist to help resume the dialogue process between the Afghan Taliban and the Afghanistan government.
