Brazil court freezes Neymar’s assets worth $50 million

RIO DE JANEIRO: A Brazilian court has frozen assets of world famous football star Neymar, his family and related businesses estimated at $50 million.

According to details, The Sao Paulo, Brazilian capital, federal court said that the 23-year-old Barcelona star is alleged to have evaded almost $16 million in Brazil taxes between years 2011 and 2013.

Iagaro Jung Martins, an auditor with Brazil’s federal tax agency said  “He will be able to discuss the frozen assets in a civil court but legislation in Brazil isn’t too harsh. If Neymar pays what he owes, he is very likely to be free from any other punishment.”

While on the other side father of star player Neymar da Silva Santos has termed the judgement as ‘unjust’, he is also the business manager of his son.

It is to be kept in mind that in May this year, a Spanish court alleged Barcelona club president Josep Bartomeu and his predecessor Sandro Rosell evaded millions in taxes after signing Neymar.
