Death toll reaches to 107 as crane collapses on holy Masjid in Makkah

MAKKAH: Death toll has reached to 107 while over 200 Hajj pilgrims were injured after a crane collapsed on the Grand Mosque of MAKKAH on Friday, TheNewsTribe.com learnt from Arab media.

“This whole place is already a giant construction site. What made it worse is that around 5.30pm there was severe rain and it’s just gushing down the road,” an AlJazeera reporter said.

“I am surrounded by people who are grieving. The mood here is of sadness.” he said

Al Jazeera’s Omar Al Saleh said bad weather was thought to be the cause of the collapse. Saudi Arabia has been hit by strong sand storms in the past few days.

The tragedy comes ahead of the annual Hajj pilgrimage which is due later this month. Millions of Muslims from around the world will converge on the holy city between September 21-26.
