ISLAMABAD: National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has issued a electricity production licence to a private company for the very first time in the history of Pakistan.
According to TheNewsTribe.com, Fatima Energy Limited (FEL), is constructing a 120-megawatt (MW) power plant at a cost of $250 million in Muzaffargarh, which is unique since it does not add pressure on the government to pay a guaranteed tariff.
The company will also directly sell electricity to bulk consumers.
According to NEPRA, Fatima Transmission Company has been issued license to produce 120 MW electricity.
This is very first time that NEPRA has issued a licence to any local company for the production of electricity before that only National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has the licence to produce electricity.
This local company will be authorized to give electricity to any local institution or organization.
Tariq Saeed, Chairman NEPRA, is of the opinion that this step will help them in overcoming the electricity shortage issue soon.
