Profile of Shuja Khanzada: Soldier turned politician

ISLAMABAD – Shuja Khanzada, senior politician and (retd) Army colonel, embraced martyrdom on Sunday, August 16, 2015 in a suicide attack at his farmhouse.

Shuja Khanzada was born on august 28, 1943 in an agriculturist family belonging to Yousafzai tribe in Attock.

After graduation from Islamia College Peshawar and  he got commissioned in Pakistan Army where he served from 1967 to 1990s.

During his military career he fought in 1971 Indo-Pak war. Shuja Khanzada also served at Siachen Glacier in 1983.

He was awarded with Tamgha-e-Basalat for his military services in 1988. He was posted as a military attache at the Pakistan’s embassy in Washington for 2 years, 1992-94.

After retirement from Pakistan army, he entered into politics and  elected three times in a row for Punjab assembly in 2002, 2008 and 2013.

He also served as advisor to Chief Minister Punjab He embraced martyrdom in a suicide attack at his farm house on august 16, 2015
