KARACHI: Support Free Media, a nonprofit organization to develop the film industry of Pakistan was unveiled at a grand event organized by Australian-Pakistani entrepreneur and social activist, Tamjid Aijazi, at The Royale Rodale (Karachi).
Support Free Media, a one-of-its-kind initiative, aims to bridge the gap between the Pakistani media personnel and the educated intellectuals of the society and to work on producing entertainment which is culturally apt, vision oriented and intellectually stimulating.
Attending the Annual Grand Dinner as guests were renowned personalities from media and politics. Politician Faisal Sabzwari; model and actress, Anam Tanveer: actor, director and producer, Azfar Ali; actor and director, Saife Hasan; Media faculty head IoBM, Pervez Jamil and the Professor of Electronic Media (KU), Osama Shafiq along with the host Tamjid Aijazi discussed and addressed the plummeting standards of Pakistani TV and Film, the cultural taboo holding back intellectuals from facilitating media and a possible solution to transcend Pakistani media from its current state.
The discussion yielded the fact that the Pakistani showbiz industry, although growing, is not producing thought provoking, inspiring content. Nor is it generating content that the nation could relate to. There is a void between people working in showbiz and the educated, intelligent personnel of the society. Our film industry specifically is largely influenced by Bollywood and Hollywood which is the reason why our movies are poles apart from our cultural norms.
The key mission of Support Free Media has its roots in the notion that in this day and age the huge influence media has over our society cannot be ignored. And, so, by channeling quality and profound entertainment, this medium could be operated in a way that can bring our industry to an international forefront. Support Free Media provides a platform for it. It is a step, a solution that will connect the intellectuals to the people working in showbiz. Support Free Media intends to seek out individuals with purpose oriented goals. It aspires to groom ideologies and technical skills of showbiz personnel.
