LAHORE: Controversial Pakistani VJ-turned actress Mathira recently spoke to a local website and shared details about a range of topics, including her family.
Mathira has always been known as one to speak her mind whenever, wherever she wants. The Lollywood actress who has always caused controversy for her sense of dressing or her bold dances, recently spoke to a local website and shared her thoughts on family, censorship and other projects that were in the pipeline.
Commenting on the flak that she received over her sizzling dance numbers in movies, Mathira took to task the negative mentality of the people in general. “Ye awam kabhi bhi khush nahi hosakti,” said the VJ-turned-actress. “People find Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce’s dance numbers as sexy. However, when a Pakistani girl does it, she is considered as vulgar,” said Mathira.
Mathira might have been referring to the criticism she encountered when her dance number was viewed by Pakistani audiences in Humayun Saeed’s Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and grooved to the song Masti Mein Doobi Raat Hai. Mathira’s song Jhoota with Arbaz Khan will also be followed up by a sequel titled Jhoota 2.
“This is a good one. Rather, a cute one,” she says. “We’ll have to see how it connects with the audiences.”
“If the team is good, then the budget doesn’t bug you too much. It becomes a secondary issue,” says Mathira, speaking about two unfulfilled Bollywood projects she has in the pipeline. “I got pregnant with my son, so didn’t end up doing them,” she shares. “The Indian directors were welcoming and really want me to do their future projects. Projects toh aate jaate rehte hain, but family always comes first.”
Regarding Bollywood, the controversial actress also had plenty to say about how she approaches a film. Revealing the fact that Mathira had been promised projects by Indian directors, however motherhood prevented her from starring in them.

Mathira also revealed that her Eid was a joyous one, since she received lots of money and her son Aahil did as well. Fortunately for her, she kept Aahil’s money since she was his mom.
“After all, I’m his legal guardian,” said Mathira.
