You can go to Pakistan: Sakshi Maharaj to Owaisi

NEW DELHI: India’s ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) MP Sakshi Maharaj took a dig at Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday for his comments on the execution of death sentence awarded to 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon.

“People who can’t respect Indian system and judiciary can go to Pakistan, door is open,” the Unnao MP said a day after Owaisi said Yakub is being hanged because he is Muslim.

The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief had accused the Centre of religious discrimination and questioned why other death row convicts were being spared.

“The killers of Rajiv Gandhi and Beant Singh have the backing of political parties in Tamil Nadu and Punjab. Which political party is backing Yakub Memon?” Owaisi said at a public meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday.

He said many thousands of people were killed in communal riots following the demolition of the Babri Majid, but charges were not pressed against officials.

His comments were immediately criticised by BJP leaders who saw it as a challenge to the judiciary.

“Both Hindus and Muslims were killed in Mumbai bomb blasts; Yakub has killed both Hindus and Muslims. It is a sin to look at this from Hindu-Muslim point of view. The law does not see religion of the culprit,” BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said.

Memon is set to be hanged on July 30, pending his appeal in the Supreme Court, for his role in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai.

As many as 257 persons were killed and over 700 injured in the serial blasts in Mumbai on March 12, 1993.
