Back surgery rules out Chris Gayle until December

JAMAICA: West Indian premier batsman Chris Gayle has announced to stay away from all forms of cricket for the next two to three months to address his back problem.

He is expected to undergo a surgery soon for the same.

Gayle made his decision public after the Jamaica Tallawahs’ Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match against Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel. The Tallawahs lost the game by 27 runs.

However, Dwayne Bravo ensured that Gayle’s onslaught did not last long and the Red Steel bowlers did not allow the opposition to go ahead.

Speaking after the game, the 35-year old said, “I have a charity game on the 2nd, but after that I will be out of cricket for two to three months. I am going to do a surgery on my back.

“So I need some time for recovery. Maybe December, before I actually get back in cricket as well. You have got to wish me luck with that surgery and then I will be back strong. Who knows, we will see what happens.”

Gayle has been plagued with back problems since the 2015 World Cup and even missed the group match against UAE for it. In fact, he played the quarter-final against New Zealand with the aid of an injection.
